A humane interface is for everyone. Each human is unique and has their weaknesses and strengths. The situations and circumstances an interface is used might be very individual. It’s the duty of the interface to respect the differences and give the very best experience possible to everyone.

Private

A humane interface respects the privacy. As little personal data as possible should be requested. The requested data must be stored secure and for the shortest time possible. The user must be stay in control over their personal, private data.

Respects preferences

A humane interface respects the personal preferences. Users can set up personal preferences, such as language, font size, color contrast or viewing mode. These presets must be take precedence over branding.

Honest

Humane interface design is honest in what it communicates. The action to follow must be clear to the user. An interface must never deceive or mislead users.

Responsive

A humane interface reacts immediately to the user’s actions. If the device detect changes of the user’s environment, the interface should adapt to this.

Attentive

A humane interface assist the user in their desired actions. It uses all information available to present a personal, unobtrusive experience.

Reliable

A humane interface is an interface the user can trust on. The action the user triggered is performed reliable and as expected. In case something went wrong, the error must be communicated very clear to the user.

Long-lasting

A humane interface is designed so that it can be used for as long as possible. It requires cognitive performance to adapt to a changed interface. Changes should therefore be kept to a minimum. The interface should be designed in such a way that new functions can be integrated without major changes.

Planet friendly

A humane interface consume as less energy as possible. It does not only good for the humans living at the moment. It also take care of other species and upcoming generations. The negative environmental impact must be as little as possible.

Considers emotions

We are humane after all. Aesthetic or joyful things make us happy. A humane interface should consider this.
